Day 82 Appalachian Trail, VA Miles Hiked to Date: 801 Hiked yesterday: 11 Trail Miles Miles to Katahdin: 1383
After Chipmunk hit the trail, I searched for a new friend; not just any friend, but a lady who had emailed me after seeing Chipmunk's recent interview on the TV News. She messaged me to say that she really wanted Chipmunk to come into town and sign the hikers' wall in her restaurant, BlueDogArt Cafe. I put the address into Evil Vengeful Rosie the GPS and easily found her establishment. I stopped in and we chatted for a while and then I promised I'd bring Chipmunk back after her hiking day. BlueDog Sue also recommended a nearby camping area that was affordable so I made some calls and lined up our evening camp spot.
We showered, took care of the yuckiest part of truck camper life: dumping the tank, and then headed into town to the ultra cheap (and very tiny) local movie theater where we watched "Now you see Me". It wasn't a blockbuster but it did offer enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I recommend it.
We returned to the campground and got a really good night of sleep. In the morning, Chipmunk dressed for hiking while I unplugged electric, filled the water supply and readied the truck for the ride back to the trailhead. She was in a good mood and we laughed and talked about all kinds of stuff as the truck chugged its way back up the mountain.
If you enjoy reading the story of Chipmunk's hike, feel free to forward our website link (or email updates) to your family, friends, co-workers, etc, (www.ridethenation.org). Chipmunk maintains a twitter account: @openlymtngoat and Papa Chip and I tweet (@ridethenation) where a common hashtag is #GoChipmunk. She (or we) will try to answer any questions you may have about her hike and this family adventure. If you’d like to send some “Trail Magic” to Chipmunk, click on the “Donate” button at the upper right of today’s blog post.
Thanks again for all your support,
