Day 76 Appalachian Trail, VA Miles Hiked to Date: 736 Hiked yesterday: 0 Trail Miles Miles to Katahdin: 1477
After all the puppy fun, we drove back to our hotel room and enjoyed delivery pizza ... yes, pizza again. I do believe both Chipmunk and her big brother, Brother Chip (a.k.a. Captain Oblivious) would eat pizza every day given the chance. I fell asleep before Chipmunk but woke around 2 AM, unable to sleep again. I opted to read emails and was pleasantly surprised and moved when I read this message from Rosie:
Chipmunks adventure inspired me today to do something that's been incredibly difficult for a while now and I just wanted to say thank you to her. Hope she has a really happy birthday. She has my total admiration (you both do but this time she is doing the hard work you the worrying no doubt) I will be putting a donation in the magic pot tonight have a wild birthday or bath whatever /
To Chipmunk you are awesome and fill me with admiration and to momma you are raising one heck of an awesome child. Good Luck to you both; will be watching your trek wishing you fair weather, good company and
fun adventures on the way. Have a Great Birthday Weekend!
PS I actually blogged about how you inspired ME and posted a link to your blog hope you dont mind.
I was in tears after reading her blog. Rosie, you truly inspire me! Thank you for giving me the words and wisdom I needed to move forward. And for supporting Chipmunk in her quest. I truly count you amongst the many who are helping her. And from another "Rosie", I offer you this quote:
"I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear."
If you enjoy reading the story of Chipmunk's quest, feel free to forward our website link (or email updates) to your family, friends, co-workers, etc, (www.ridethenation.org). Chipmunk maintains a twitter account: @openlymtngoat where a common hashtag is #GoChipmunk. She (or we) will try to answer any questions you may have about her hike and this family adventure.
