Day 136 on the Appalachian Trail Miles Hiked to Date: 1442 Hiked yesterday: 14 Trail Miles, Miles left to hike: 741
Papa Chip and I drove into the closest town and stopped at the local coffee shop to inquire about wifi. They confirmed that they did not have wifi so we walked a short distance down the street and found another breakfast spot that said it did have wifi. It was a new business and we thought it would be nice to spend a few bucks there. Unfortunately, the owner could not get the wifi to work so after we ate breakfast sandwiches and coffee, we headed to the local laundromat that had a wifi sign, too. Papa Chip went to the camper to pull our laundry bag while I tried to connect to wifi. Their wifi wasn't working either. I intercepted Papa Chip and told him that we'd have to find somewhere else. We found the local library and waited just over an hour until they opened. I finally got the blog posted and my other online work done.
We drove towards the late day meet up spot and again explored that area. We returned to the Chip Mobile and were sitting there checking our phones, when a car pulled up next to us and parked.
As we talked, I got my bag of Permanent markers out of the camper and asked John to sign it. His trail name is "Hawk4Eye" and I told him that Chipmunk is a big fan of Hawkeye on Mash. He shared that, back in the day when we all chatted via CB Radios, the name Hawkeye was taken so he changed it up to "Hawk4Eye" ... I like it! "Breaker 19 ... this is Hawk 4 Eye ... I've gotta couple smokies on my tail .." We hung out and waited for Chipmunk and a few other trail angel friends that we made on facebook.
Around 8 pm, I had to break up the fun and I announced that Chipmunk needed to eat and get to bed. We thanked Martin, Donna and Michaela for taking the time to meet up with us and we waved goodbye to G Hippie. We drove to a nearby camp area and Papa Chip whipped up a quick yummy meal. By 9 pm, the lights were out and we were all headed off to dreamland. It's always nice to make new friends.
